We spend 6 nights at the beach house with our two girls (6 and 8) and it was just perfect! Ever since I found the house in the internet I had the wish to stay there. The location of the house is awesome. Right on the beach, right on an extremely nice beach. The house itself is very well equipped, lovely interior with lots of wooden elements, very clean, abolutely nice decoration. Comfortable beds, great bathroom.

AC helps to stay cool at night. The outdoor space is amazing with lots of different chairs, hammocks – you just chose what you like best. Chilling outside, nice and shady. Perfect. There is a pool which is commonly used by the couple of other houses around. Nice to use, especially for our kids. But: hey, there is this amazing beach right in front of your doorstep.

Pia is a very friendly and helpful landlord. The booking procedure went smoothly and all questions were answered quick and always friendly. Meeting her was a pleasure. We also got some good advice on restaurants, shops, driving directions for our onward journey. We loved the house, we loved the beach, we loved our stay and will never forget the great time we had there! THANK YOU PIA!

The Beachfront Palm House is every bit as advertised and an outstanding getaway for those who prefer to forgo the hotel/inn experience. The home was in excellent condition, and we were provided everything we needed to be comfortable: laundry facilities, a fully-equipped kitchen, and lots of hammocks to lounge in. Everything was clean and tidy and beautifully crafted. Check in and check out could not have been simpler.

Sunsets here are phenomenal and the beach was the cleanest we saw in Costa Rica during vacation. We felt connected and yet private. The hotel next door, Luz da Vida, has a nice pool for kiddos who prefer that to the surf, which is challenging for younger ones but a heck of a lot of fun for stronger swimmers.

Some people might not like the music piping in from Luz da Vida, but we actually really enjoyed 90% of it and gave right back with the speakers provided at the house. Enjoying a couple evenings of wine, music, candlelight and reading was the most relaxing part of our trip and we’re anxious to do it again. We felt 100% safe even though the house was wide open most of the day and night.

The only complaint we had was that the wi-fi dialup at the house was not very useful but the lovely Zaza Cafe is a short walk away and has a great connection. It was an excuse to get out and about and enjoy a really great cappuccino while catching up with work and the world. We never got to meet Pia but she checked in regularly via phone and was as sweet and friendly as can be. We will definitely be back and will sing the Beachfront Palm House praises to everyone we know!

I cannot say enough nice things about this property or the owner, Pia. Everything from start to finish was just wonderful. My husband, daughter (18 month old) and mom all stayed here very comfortably. We arrived kind of late on the Saturday, due to our flight getting delayed on the way over, but Pia was there to greet us and show us around. She said to call if we needed anything. The whole week there was just fantastic. From sitting out on the patio, having a nice glass of wine & dinner, listening to the music from next door to have your own private little beach right in front of the house.

The music at the restaurant/hotel next door was really nice… not annoying at all. The bartender even came over one night to deliver a nice appetizer(delicious tuna tartare), while we were hanging on the patio, to “apologize” for the noise. We were not complaining at all, but how nice to do that. This house was in a perfect location, in my opinion. This was our first big family beach vacation and it could not have been more relaxing. You can go for breakfast, lunch or dinner next door or at tons of places nearby, walking distance. There is a nice hotel just down the beach past banana beach that has lovely massages, facials, etc. The access to the pool next door was perfect-it was far enough away where my daughter couldn’t wander into it, but so nice to be able to walk a minute and just jump in the pool to cool off. The outdoor shower was a nice amenity too. Pia was so great and hospitable. Every time our water ran out, we called her to ask for another and it was at the house within 10 minutes. Talk about service!! The surf break out front was pretty great too.

My husband is a big surfer (he surfs 4x/week at home) and he was very pleased about the break, although the waves could have been a little better! But, we didn’t get the greatest swell when we were there. We watched the sunset next door in the nice chairs/lounges/hammocks every night, while my daughter played happily in the sand. And the waiters bring drinks to your chair which is pretty amazing. It has just 2 bedrooms, but with the loft upstairs where my mom slept and us being downstairs, it felt plenty big. My daughter had the downstairs bedroom and we had the bed just outside of her room. It worked out perfectly and I want to go back now!!
Thanks again Pia for your warm welcome and hospitality. We will be back again soon, we hope!

When you walk into a house with a moat its practically a castle, first impression was like being on the set of a hollywood movie. I suprised my friends with the house and they were in awe. The one problem with staying there was you didn’t want to leave the house to explore more especially when there was a perfect beach front steps away. Got to see some amazing sunsets and we were there at the beginning of the rainy season, so you could watch some of the most amazing light shows right from the patio. That and it was warm enough that you could walk around in the rain with your swimming trunks on and it was refreshing.

More so than the ocean because swimming in the ocean was like bath water. Also right next door was a beautiful infinity pool that could cool you off if the sun got too hot. There was air conditioning and wifi along with cable and movies although I think my whole vacation I might have watched 1 hour of television the entire month I was gone. There was to supermarkets with every thing you needed 10 min walk away and the Banana bar next door was perfect if you were too lazy to cook. BBQ beer can chicken on the grill was delicious I stayed with 7 others people lots of room and no one felt crowded also the laundry and 2 bathrooms were great.

Highly recommended place to stay. Looked forward to meeting the owner we talked on the phone a couple times extremely nice, but was busy with other buissness. I would reccomend this property to any friends or relatives if I had the money I would take my entire family there in a heart beat felt safe the entire time! I would come back again no questions asked 🙂

I really enjoyed my vacations in this house. I came from a hotel and someone talked to me about this house so i just went an talked to the owner, who are really nice people, and finally get the house. I was there with my wife and she said that it is the most romantic home where we had stayed. I really recomend it, thanks for everything.

Have always stayed in Mal Pais, because of the privacy. I never expected this place to be so serene, yet was able to access all of the hotel’s benefits. It was great. Fenced yard right on the beach. Great surf break directly in front of the house. Also, between 3:00 and 7:00 is 2 for 1 Pina Coladas or whateverelse you may desire. Unbelievable sunsets. Already talking about returning with rest of family.
